Soultied privacy policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
Soultied is a small shared place online for two people in a long-distance relationship, plus a browser extension for watching Netflix and Prime Video together. This page explains what each part handles, where it goes, and how to delete it. It is written by the person who builds Soultied, Vedanth Bhat. Questions or requests: hello@soultied.app.
The short version: what you put in Soultied is shared with your person and nobody else. There are no ads, no analytics or tracking, and nothing is sold.
The Soultied website (soultied.app)
Signing in. You sign in with Google through Firebase Authentication (a Google service). Soultied receives your Google account's name, email address and a user ID. The email is only used to keep you signed in and to show you which account you're using.
Your place. When you build a place, or join one with your person's invite code, Soultied stores these in a Firebase Cloud Firestore database (Google Cloud, Mumbai region):
- the name you give yourselves and your place, and your pixel character
- your answers to the daily questions and letters
- your room, game progress and activity feed (for example "watched Episode 3 together")
- the list of shows and episodes you've watched together through the extension, and where you left off
Only the two members of a place can read it. The database rules enforce this. Invite codes expire and can only be used to join.
Live messages. Chat, reactions, play/pause/skip and video-call setup messages travel between you as small records in the same database. They're kept there, readable only by the two of you, until your place is deleted.
Video and voice calls (with Soultied Plus). Cameras and microphones are only switched on when you press the button, and your browser asks for permission first. Calls go directly between your two browsers (WebRTC) whenever your networks allow it. When a network blocks that (some mobile, college and office networks do), the call is passed along by a relay server (TURN). Calls are encrypted from one browser to the other either way, so a relay can't see or hear them. They are not recorded or stored. Public STUN servers (Google's and Cloudflare's) are used only to help your two browsers find each other.
Soultied Plus on your place. When one of you adds a Plus code to your place, the place stores a fingerprint of the code (not the code itself), who added it and when it ends, and your account is added to the list of browsers using that code (up to three).
YouTube. Videos in the TV room and songs on the record player play in YouTube's own player, embedded from YouTube (a Google service), and YouTube's privacy policy covers what it collects while it plays. Soultied stores the video's ID (and, for a song, its title) in your place, so it plays for both of you.
On this device. The site keeps a copy of your place in your browser's local storage, so it opens quickly.
The Soultied browser extension
The extension only runs on:
- Netflix and Prime Video pages, to keep your video in sync, and
- Soultied's own pages (soultied.app and soultied-c1543.web.app / .firebaseapp.com), to connect to your signed-in Soultied tab and to open watch-party links.
What it reads on Netflix or Prime Video: the video player's state (playing or paused, the time, whether an ad or buffering is happening) and which title and episode is playing. On Prime Video that comes from the title id in the player's own requests to Amazon, and the extension asks Amazon for that title's name the same way the player does. It does not read your account, profile, payment details, viewing history or anything else on those sites. No video or audio from the show is ever copied or sent anywhere. You each watch on your own account.
What it sends: play, pause and skip events with the time and title, your chat messages and reactions. With a Soultied place, these go to your open Soultied tab, which passes them to your person as live messages (above), and when you've watched an episode together, the title and where you stopped are added to your place's "watched together" list. In a watch party, they go as described next.
Watch parties. You can also watch with someone without a Soultied place: one of you starts a watch party and sends the link (it opens a page on soultied.app). For a watch party, the extension signs in to Soultied's Firebase project anonymously: Firebase gives this browser a random ID, with no name, email or Google account attached. In the same Cloud Firestore database it stores the party: its ID, the name each of you typed and a pixel character picked for you, which of you started it, and the title being watched (show, episode and its Netflix or Prime Video link, so the link takes your person to the same show). Play, pause, skip, chat and reactions travel between the two of you as live messages in that party. Anyone with the link can see who started the party and what's on, and take the one empty seat; only the two people in the party can see or send its live messages. With Soultied Plus, cameras and voice work in a watch party too. The camera and microphone are used only after you press the camera, unmute or talk button. The first time, a small Soultied window asks Chrome's permission for the extension itself (so it doesn't have to ask again on every show). The call then runs in the extension's own hidden page, so it carries on while you move between shows; it works as described under “Video and voice calls” above, with its setup messages travelling through the party like its other live messages. Your camera turns off and your microphone mutes by themselves when no Netflix or Prime Video tab has been open for a short while, and both stop when you leave the party. Voice isolation (on unless you switch it off) cleans background noise out of your microphone on your own computer, before your voice is sent; nothing extra is sent anywhere for it.
What it keeps on your computer (Chrome's extension storage, never uploaded by the extension itself): your last Soultied session (your name, your person's name, both pixel characters, your place's name and the watched-together list, used for the "no watching ahead" check), the address of your Soultied tab, whether the chat panel is open, and for watch parties the name you typed, your pixel character, the party you're in, the anonymous sign-in and your call settings (“My mic” and “Their voice” volumes, and whether voice isolation is on).
Permissions: storage (the items above), offscreen (a hidden page of the extension's own that keeps a watch party connected while you're in one, runs its Plus call, and closes itself when no show has been open for a few minutes), scripting (used only right after the extension is installed or updated, to start its own scripts in Netflix, Prime Video and Soultied tabs that were already open), plus access to the Netflix, Prime Video and Soultied pages listed. The extension doesn't use remote code, and it doesn't see other tabs or your browsing history.
Soultied Plus (paying)
The payment. In India, Plus is paid through Razorpay; everywhere else, through Dodo Payments, which is the merchant of record for those sales. They collect what they need to take the payment (such as your email, your card or UPI details and, for Dodo, your billing country) under their own privacy policies. Soultied never receives your card or bank details.
What Soultied keeps. Soultied's server (Firebase Cloud Functions, Google Cloud, Mumbai region) asks Razorpay or Dodo whether your payment went through, then stores, in the same Cloud Firestore database: the payment and order numbers, the plan, when it ends, a fingerprint (SHA-256) of your code rather than the code itself, and the anonymous ID of each browser (up to three) that added the code. A separate record, which only Soultied's server can read, keeps the code with its order number so it can show it to you again if you lose it.
On your computer. The extension keeps your code and its end date in its storage, and the Plus page remembers codes bought in that browser in its local storage.
Who else sees your data
- Your person, who shares your place or your watch party. A watch party's link shows whoever opens it who started it and what's on.
- Google, as the provider of Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore, processes the data to run the service, under Google's Firebase terms and privacy commitments.
- Razorpay (in India) and Dodo Payments (everywhere else) process Plus payments, as described above.
- GitHub hosts the website (GitHub Pages), and Google Fonts serves its font. Like any web host, they receive your IP address and browser details when the page loads.
- No one else. Soultied does not sell, rent or share your data, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it to decide on credit or lending.
Deleting your data
- Extension: removing it from Chrome deletes everything it stored on your computer.
- Website on this device: sign out, or clear this site's data in your browser.
- Your place online: email hello@soultied.app from the Google account you use with Soultied. Your place and everything in it, including live messages, will be deleted within 30 days.
- A watch party: email hello@soultied.app with the party's link. The party and its live messages will be deleted within 30 days.
Children
Soultied is made for couples and isn't directed at children. Please don't use it if you're under 13, or under the minimum age for online services where you live.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
